Youth I -- Babies through
6th Grade
 |
Young people are extremely important for any church, and Hillcrest is no
exception. Our Bible curriculum for our children is a systemic journey the
entire Bible. We have developed our curriculum from various Internet sources as
well as many reproducible activity books. Many of our lesson activities are
"hands on." We also have provided the teachers with many resources
that are age-appropriate, such as coloring sheets, word searches, crossword
puzzles, etc. Visual aids are provided for each story.
Our babies through two years of age have twelve of the most familiar Bible
stories taught to them during Sunday morning and Wednesday night Bible classes.
These stories are repeated each quarter. By the time these children are ready to
be promoted to the next class, they have heard these stories several times.
Also, during Bible class time, they are exposed to many Bible songs that are
developmentally appropriate for their age group. |

Our next Bible class is for ages 2 and 3 years old. We have selected 26
stories from the Old Testament and 26 from the New Testament. Again, we chose
the more familiar stories and their curriculum is repeated each year. The story
is taught on Sunday morning and reviewed on Wednesday nights. By the time they
are promoted to the next class, they have heard these stories a least twice, and
perhaps three times.
Our next class is for four-year olds, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
students. As children are promoted from one class to the next, they are exposed
to more and more stories from the Bible. At this level, we have developed a
two-year curriculum with a little over one year being spent in the Old Testament
and the remainder spent with New Testament stories. The story is taught on
Sunday mornings and then reviewed on Wednesday nights. At this age level,
children are exposed to more than 100 different Bible stories. |
|
The next Bible class is for children in grades 1, 2, and 3. The same format
is used for this class as the previous one. A three-year curriculum has been
developed for these students. By the time they complete it, they will have been
exposed to more than 150 different Bible stories.
The 4, 5, and 6 grade class also, has a three-year curriculum. However, they
are taught a Bible story on Sunday morning and an entirely different one on
Wednesday night. After completing the sixth grade, students have heard over 300
Bible stories. They also perform Bible skits for our younger children. They
learn how to use a Bible dictionary, a concordance and other Bible reference
books and materials.
